Two museum openings characteristic on this week’s podcast—V&A East in London and the Los Angeles County Museum of Artwork.
The V&A East Museum in Stratford, London opens 18 April

In our three hundredth episode in 2024, Gus Casely-Hayford, the director of the V&A East, informed us in regards to the community-driven programming on the museum and its reference to its native surroundings in East London. Now, because the museum opens, he takes Ben Luke on a tour of its commissions, shows and its first exhibition, The Music is Black: A British Story.

In California, the Los Angeles County Museum of Artwork (Lacma) has simply opened its new constructing by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor, which value greater than $700m, and has generated some controversy. Ben speaks to our correspondent in Los Angeles, Jori Finkel, in regards to the new constructing and the talk about its scale, its value, its suitability for LA and whether or not Angelinos and vacationers will take to Zumthor’s constructing.

And this episode’s Work of the Week is Devil Smiting Job with Sore Boils (round 1826) by the good 18th-century artist and poet, William Blake. The work is a part of a brand new exhibition on the Nationwide Gallery of Eire, known as William Blake: The Age of Romantic Fantasy, which opened this week. Ben speaks to the exhibition’s co-curator, Anne Hodge, in regards to the work.
